Cicero Wins 13u Season Opener

Cicero 13u - Big Blue - opened up the season with a decisive 8-3 win against Geddes 13u on Thursday night at Central Park in Cicero.

Cicero fired up the offense in the first inning. With Dom Ciccone and Nicholas Capece on base, Michael Mooney singled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs. Mooney then stole his way to third base, and then scored on a passed ball.

Cicero put up three more runs in the third inning. The offense in the inning was led by Nicholas Capece and Mooney, who both knocked in runs in the inning. Dom Ciccone started it off with a single, and then scored on a triple by Nicholas Capece, who then scored on a single by Michael Mooney.

Geddes scored three runs in the fifth inning, thanks to a walk by Sean Finnerty and a single by Austin Getz. Alex Smith earned the win for Cicero and received the MVP game ball for his play on the mound, surrendering three runs over five innings, striking out 13.

Ryan Keil threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Keil recorded the last six outs to earn the save for Cicero Big Blue 13u. He also hit 1 and scored 1 run for Cicero.

Cade Caloia took the loss for Geddes. He surrendered 8 runs on 9 hits over 5 innings, Steven Meideros finished for Geddes, striking out six and walking zero.

Cicero totaled nine hits. Dom Ciccone and Mooney each racked up multiple hits. Capece and Ciccone both scored 2 runs on the day. Mooney led Cicero with four stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths. Nicholas Capece, Alex Smith, Ryan Keil, Jimmy Zampini also had stolen bases.

Highlight plays on the day included:

  • Multiple throwdowns for tags at 3rd base by Cicero catchers, including Jacskon Fudge and Carter Duncan.
  • Deep, high fly ball catch in left field by Nicholas Capece
  • Multiple put outs to first base by Alex Smith on the mound
  • A perfect tag at third base by Connor Pearce on a throw from the catcher
  • The deepest hit of the day came from Jacob Calabria
  • Tag play at home by catcher Jackson Fudge to end the game

 Team captains on the night were Michael Mooney and Sean Bombard.

For players, ages 11-13, who are interested in playing baseball beyond the Majors division in Little League, CLL's Intermediate Division (50/70) is for you. This division follows MLB rules and is played on a larger field. This team travels to compete against other local 13u teams in the district. CLL also now has a 14u team and is developing it's 16u teams. Let us know if you're interested!
