Cicero 13u Defeats Geddes for 3rd Win in a Row



Cicero's 13u travel team visited Geddes Stadium for the first time Thursday night, and came away with their 3rd straight win with a 12-5 victory.

In the first inning, Cicero got their offense started right off the bat, as Dom Ciccone and Nicholas Capece put up singles. Michael Mooney grounded out, scoring one run (Ciccone). The inning stalled after Jackson Fudge hit a single, as a strikeout and fly-out ended the inning with runners on.

Cicero woke up again in the 3rd inning, as hits by Jimmy Zampini, Ciccone and Capece drove in 2 runs to make the score 3-0.

The score jumped to 4-0, when Alex Smith‘s double brought in Frankie Sgroi, who was on base from an earlier walk.

Geddes got it’s first run in the 4th, thanks to a single and triple.

Then Cicero notched five runs in the sixth inning. Batters contributing to the big inning included Frankie Sgroi, Ryan Keil, Avery Pankow, Connor Pearce, and Sean Bombard, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning. After six, the score was 9-1.

Cicero gave up four runs in the sixth inning, which included walks, a single and double and some fielding errors and passed balls.

With the score at 9-5, Cicero came out strong in the 7th. Jackson Fudge’s walk was followed by singles by Michael Mooney, Smith, and Keil, plus a double by Sgroi. The inning ended at 12-5.

Cicero tallied 16 hits in the game. Dom Ciccone, Keil, Nicholas Capece, and Alex Smith each had multiple hits for Cicero. Cicero also stole 20 bases during the game as four players stole more than one. Michael Mooney led the way with six.

Cicero spread the pitching duties around as Alex Smith started, followed by Jackson Fudge, Connor Pearce, Ryan Keil and Frankie Sgroi.

Some highlight plays on the day included:

  • Long throw from Bombard to Sgroi, from center field to home plate, for the out.
  • Power hits off the wall by Ciccone and Sgroi.
  • Doubles by Sgroi, Smith, Pearce and Pankow
  • Two tag plays at home by Sgroi
  • Squeeze play by Pearce to score Pankow
